Envirochem Now Offer DOP Testing

Envirochem now offer on-site Dispersed Oil Particulate (DOP) Testing.

High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are designed to remove fibres and particles from the environment.

HEPA filters require regular maintenance and validation.

DOP testing is an essential part of this and is used to determine if the performance and integrity of the HEPA filter is of an acceptable standard, identifying if there are any leaks present within the filter, frame or seals.

All equipment containing HEPA filters (e.g. Negative Pressure Units and ‘H’ Type vacuum cleaners) must be tested every 6 months, and if the filter has been replaced or the equipment has been dropped or damaged in any way.

As part of a DOP test, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and air flow testing is required. Once tested, a certificate is issued and each piece of equipment labelled.

Envirochem Offer RPE Face Fit Testing

Envirochem now offer respiratory protective equipment (RPE) fit testing.

The performance of all RPE face pieces, whether operating by negative pressure, power assistance or compressed air, relies heavily on the quality of fit to the wearer’s face. An inadequate fit will significantly reduce the protection provided by the RPE and may lead to serious health problems.

Fit testing is available on-site or at our laboratory for full-face, half-face, ori-nasal and P3 disposable masks.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires all employers to take satisfactory precautions to protect their employees in the workplace.

Under the revised Health and Safety Executive Legislation (2002), fit test reports should be available for all employees who wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE) incorporating tight fitting face pieces. Fit test records should be retained by the employer and be available for inspection upon request.

Regulation 11 of the control of asbestos regulations (2012) states that fit testing of face pieces must be pertained for tight fitting face pieces. Repeat testing is required when changing size or model of RPE, or with significant changes in facial characteristics of the wearer. The HSE recommend that fit retesting be carried out on a regular basis, especially for workers involved in licensed asbestos removals.

Asbestos Found in Hundreds of Kent Schools

Information has been released confirming 346 Kent schools contain asbestos; the substance can be found in any building built before the year 2000 including schools, houses, offices, factories and hospitals across the UK.

If managed properly and left undisturbed in a safe condition, asbestos containing materials do not necessarily pose a risk to health. It is only when the substance is disturbed or damaged causing fibres to be released that it becomes a serious health risk.

One of the ways asbestos can be managed is by conducting a Management Asbestos Survey. This will identify the presence and location of any asbestos containing materials, whilst also providing recommendations as to how these materials are properly managed.

Envirochem Are Developing Tests for Clostridium Perfringens in our Microbiology Laboratory

Envirochem are developing a new test, this is for the bacteria Clostridium Perfringens. These bacteria are indicators of faecal contamination. They are however found when other faecal indicators a not detectable, for example at times of remote or intermittent pollution. Therefore, detection of Clostridium Perfringens can help us detect contamination different levels.
