Dave is an accomplished analytical chemist with extensive experience in occupational hygiene and environmental monitoring. He began his career in a public analyst laboratory before joining ICI, Zeneca, and AstraZeneca, where he supported toxicology, environmental monitoring, and occupational hygiene initiatives. During his tenure, Dave contributed to the development and validation of methods for occupational hygiene surveys and played a key role in supporting the OEL-setting process.
At ExxonMobil, Dave held several roles, providing occupational hygiene support across Europe and Africa whilst contributing to global programme development. He managed a team at a large petrochemical site, delivering comprehensive occupational hygiene support during routine operations, planned maintenance, and unplanned events. Later, he transitioned to a research role as an exposure scientist, focusing on the implementation of REACH regulations for ExxonMobil products across the EU.
Dave holds a degree in Applied Chemistry, an MSc in Occupational Hygiene, and a BOHS Diploma in Operational Competence. A Chartered Member of the Society for Worker Protection, he has been an active member of BOHS since 1999, regularly presenting podium lectures at conferences. Since retiring from ExxonMobil, Dave has remained actively involved in the field, serving as a member of HSE RISEP (REACH Independent Scientific Expert Pool) for REACH authorisations.
With a career spanning decades, Dave continues to be a dedicated advocate for worker protection, leveraging his expertise to advance occupational hygiene practices and regulatory compliance.
