Scope
Envirochem attended the site in Segensworth and alongside the site supervisor identified areas where employees could be exposed to inhalable and respirable dusts, volatile organic compounds and oil mists. Airbox sampling pumps were set up in static locations and on employees and SKC charcoal passive sampling badges were also set up on employees in areas where there is likely to be exposure to volatile organics. Oil mist filters are weighed gravimetrically and washed with cyclohexane, dried and reweighed to determine if any oil is present.
The results of the occupational hygiene assessment can be used to inform employers as to whether specific personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for their employees to work safely in these conditions and to be used as part of a control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) assessment.
How we Helped
Location:
GP Surgeries
Service:
Legionella risk assessment by microbiological testing.
Project Description:
A Legionella risk assessment survey is an examination of the potential risks presented by engineered water systems, and seeks to identify and prevent the risks of exposure to Legionella bacteria from work activities and water systems.
Envirochem visited the surgeries before they were open to the patients in order to avoid any disruptions and delays on the consultations.
Project Scope
Envirochem carried out the legionella risk assessment by taking Legionella and TVCs samples, as well as temperature measurements to have a better understanding of the water quality. TVC analysis is required to simulate the potential threat the water could pose if ingested.
On completion of the analysis, the results were interpreted and the relevant advice was given to the Surgeries Manager.
